The wonder of chapter 19 is not that Sodom is destroyed. That actually makes perfect sense. We might not like it but it makes perfect sense that a pure and holy god would punish evil. No, the overwhelmingly staggering, “go home today and tell your family and friends that Christians are crazy and believe ridiculous notions” thing here in chapter 19 is that Lot gets saved. That’s what’s amazing. The mercy and grace of God is amazing.

So why would we ever look back like Lot’s wife?
