(At 23.00). David, the coprophagy analogy is more apt than perhaps you might think. The habit, in dogs, is depraved (see Juliette de Barracli Levy et al). We are stewards of the the natural world and its animals, a created order incommensurate with the values of industrial efficiency. Owning a dog, in this sense, is an ethical project (see the Monks of New Skete). I must say that I have failed it, myself, a number of times.
