The Depths of Depravity

via A&O, this is the most amazing story.

Understand this correctly. A woman and her boyfriend both acted together in order to induce a miscarriage in the woman (who was 4 months pregnant).
Now, that in itself is obviously outrageous. Not just that they considered the action but that she had been duped by our society to think that her child was an inconvenience.

But, the story gets worse.
The man was convicted on 2 counts of murder. Obviously.
The woman was acquitted because of her legal right to abortion.

Think about that for a moment. They were both carrying out exactly the same action. The same consequence ensued. But the law of the land says that the woman has absolute right to kill the child simply because she is the mother whereas the man does not.

Possession is truly now nine tenths of the law. It’s evil, truly evil.

Sounds like they both should have gotten life sentences to me. Twins even. My gosh. And she goes free. It sounds like she instigated the whole thing — like she was the ring-leader, so to speak. I think it takes a certain kind of demented individual to step on his wife’s belly and his unborn children, but it has to be some degree worse for the one carrying them. Depravity is right.

I’m inclined to agree although, since my wife has been involved in crisis pregnancy counselling, I have far more sympathy for the women who are faced with these very difficult decisions, especially since society pushes them in the worst direction.

Yes, I do find it quite ironic that professionals seem to have a license to do what those who are more directly involved do not. It doesn’t send the best message. But obviously they knew they were breaking the law. I know people who have gotten abortions and regret what they did and are repentant. And they’re so damaged by it — except those that understand true redemption. And then there is healing, but still sadness.

Perhaps the fact that he was an adult and she was not had something to do with the way they prosecuted it — though I know what the article said. The right to choose. But then why didn’t she just go in and get an abortion? Because it was too late legally, I’m guessing. Then she didn’t have a legal right, you know?

It’s a topic I’ve been passionate about since 3rd grade when I discovered what an abortion was, so I’m sorry if I seem emotional. It’s something I’ve never been able to comprehend. I’m a woman who has been pregnant a total of two times… I have two children. I have had no miscarriages or abortions. I am very blessed. I just can’t even imagine miscarrying my babies, or worse, aborting them. I’ve seen pregnant women right here on LJ talk about the womans right to choose and it just baffles me. I had such a spiritual and motherly connection to both my babies when I was pregnant. Some people are missing out, man.

I wish I could say I was surprised. But I’m not — just disappointed.

On the slightly positive side, though, at least the legal system has recognized that abortion is murder, and has created a precedent that can be used in later cases.

If I were the guy, I’d appeal on the grounds of sexual discrimination.
