on blogging and whatnot

I’ve been thinking a bit recently about how much (or little) I blog and why.

In real life I’m quite extroverted. In class I am one of the most vocal, with my friends I’m the guy talking a lot. But, for some reason I don’t blog here nearly enough as I would like to. At the same time 2 people whose blogs I read have posted on the same subject.

The first guy is a classmate of mine who is probably the opposite of me (you know who you are). In public he’s quite quiet – keeps himself to himself – but his bloglife (I’ve just invented a new word) is larger than mine.

And then there’s Tim Challies who has just posted about his 1000th consecutive day of blogging. As Tim records,

I was a pretty sorry excuse for a blogger and decided that I would either need to shape up and dedicate myself to blogging or give up and find something else to do with my time. And so, I decided that I would attempt to commit to blogging every day for an entire year. While I am an undisciplined person, I am also stubborn and, to my great surprise, I managed to make it through the year without missing a day. I recommitted and worked my way through a second year. And now the end of the third year is drawing near and I’m still at it. In the meantime, I’ve reached this silly little milestone.

I like to think that I could do that. I reckon that i have loads to blog about. Every day I’m learning new things and thinking about everything. All it takes is the discipline to get it down on paper screen. Is that what people want to see?

Or is blogging just the ultimate in narcissism?

I guess it depends on how you see it. I like blogging, but I take it somewhat casually; I like it because it helps me keep in touch with friends, and I can babble about my day or whatever’s the most recent interesting thing in my life or something….whether it’s everyday, or once a week.

For me, blogging just happens; it’s not a conscious commitment ๐Ÿ˜‰

It is what you make of it. For me it is a mix of things: a place to talk about life, to get advice from the trusted few on my flist, to share things that God is showing me, to goof off at times, and to occasionally vent (since I’m really not a vent-er in person). But I also use my LJ as a way to make real and meaningful connections with those on my flist that have become my dear friends, one of which has now become my best friend.
