more BBC prejudice

I love the BBC, I really do, but every so often their directive journalism is appalling. The latest example comes from the BBC News Front Page, where the top headline is:

Israeli jets in new Lebanon raids

Now, nothing strange about that, you might think, but here’s the picture that accompanied the headline:

Now, if you were seeking to prejudice the understanding of Israel’s actions then there wouldn’t be much of a better way to do it.

Wouldn’t it be equally prejudiced to axe all such photos, since cute little girls unquestionably are stakeholders in this conflict?

no, I don’t think so. The use of a cute girl in that way is merely to force an emotional response. Look, here’s how it works 😉

      opposes father of Charis

      Cute Charis

        Hee! That was great.

        I couldn’t dare oppose Charis’ father. 🙂

Haha, good point, however in the case of the Middle East, the little girls themselves are potential victims of any campaign in which civilian areas are attacked. It’s probably not the best choice of image, though.

Er, that was supposed to be a reply to your reply.

    2. David Ould

      yeah.

Don’t get me wrong. Having children of my own I am horrified at the thought that others may die. But it’s hardly the best way to communicate the subtleties of the issue on the Front Page.

Don’t worry, I don’t subscribe to the opponent-hates-babies method of debate.

now, what I’d really be interested in is your thoughts on the previous post about defending Israel…

          1. jonny_darko

I really could stand to be better informed on the matter before drawing strong conclusions. I don’t think either side has any good reason to keep striking the other, but I’m clueless as to what, if anything, outsiders like us should do.

I think Lebanon should get on their knees and thank Christ Jesus they’re not living in Old Testament times! 🙂

Deut. 2: 33 The LORD our God delivered him over to us, and we defeated him with his sons and all his people. 34 So we captured all his cities at that time and utterly destroyed the men, women and children of every city. We left no survivor.
