Covenant Care

The Covenant Care Day Centre is a valuable addition to home-based palliative care services in the community. It is the only day hospice in Canberra and the only one operating out of a church.

We meet each Monday at 10am in the Holy Covenant Worship Centre.

Holy Covenant launches Covenant Care

Our Community Palliative Care Service opened its doors in December 2011.

The Palliative Care Society partners with Holy Covenant through its faith community nurse and has just opened its doors on the day hospice.

The day hospice offers a day with a difference for those in our community living with a life threatening illness but just as important it offers the carer a day off to catch up on outstanding matters or to just take advantage of time out to relax.

Assisted by a registered experienced nurse and an activity officer the clients and carers know they are in good hands and will be well entertained in their day. Covenant Care is a template for the possibility of other day hospice facilities in Canberra.

Most terminally ill people want to remain in their own home to their last days. The day hospice aims to assist to help make that possible by providing this valuable support.

The Palliative Care Society's David Lawrance said, “Apart from a precious period of respite for the carers, the Covenant Care centre offers social and mental stimulation for those attending, a chance to meet others facing similar circumstances as themselves as well as a hot meal.”

The Covenant Care day centre is a valuable addition to home based palliative care services in the community. It is the only day hospice in Canberra and the only one operating out of a church.

Officially opened on 20th February 2012, Covenant Care is a wonderful example of the gospel in action.
