Following on from my earlier post, just in from people on the ground at synod.
on the motion to introduce a debate at next year’s synod on the ordination of women to the priesthood, the votes were as follows:
Laity:
Yes 114 (32.7%)
No 235 (67.3%)
Clergy:
Yes 31 (15.8%)
No 165 (84.2%)
The clergy vote is refreshingly clear and the laity vote is pretty emphatic. Sydney has decided that this issue is already decided and it should be a long time before we see another vote on this issue.
