Bond, James Bond

So Yahoo give us the news that we’ve known for months; Pierce Brosnan won’t be playing James Bond anymore.

Funnily enough, Jacqui and I were watching “Die Another Day” on the telly on Sunday evening which, it turns out, will be Brosnan’s last Bond film. I don’t know about you, but I just loved Brosnan as Bond, he brought a touch of class to the job that hadn’t been there since Sean Connery was flying around in rocket jetpacks.

So, it was with a heavy heart that I read the  following:

Brosnan says he’s grateful to have had the role, but adds: “It never
felt real to me. I never felt I had complete ownership over Bond.
Because you’d have these stupid one-liners โ€” which I loathed โ€” and I
always felt phony doing them.”
“Stupid one-liners”???!!! How dare he? Those “stupid one-liners” were one of the best bits of the films. Rubbish, yet witty retorts (usually with some degree of innuendo) that lightened the mood and added to the enjoyment.

So it’s with a mixed heart that we bid Pierce farewell. I thought he was the best, now I’m not so sure.

All that remains is to post a picture of the man which, hopefully, will subliminally reinforce a certain perception of me. Read the whole post again imagining my sophisticated English accent as you look at the picture.

“There will be a small memorial service with a few lonely restauratuers in attendance.”

Including myself, of course. Because you are so right in your call. There have only been 2 Bonds – Connery and Brosnan.

In memorial I had a vodka martini, shaken – not stirred.
