A most excellent illness

So, I have been diagnosed with Hashimoto’s – an autoimmune deficiency. That means that my body is slowly attacking it’s glands, starting with the thyroid gland. I’ve had hypothyroidism for a while now. My thyroid doesn’t produce nearly anything like the amount of thyroxin that the body needs.

Curiously (or maybe not), my brother pould is hypothyroidic too.

The first set of blood tests looked for antibodies. Hashimoto’s makes the body produce antibodies against your glands. The main anti-thyroid antibody is TPOAb. Against a typical score of 0-60 U/ML I scored 604.5, over 10 times the normal levels.

Whilst it sounds serious it’s dealt with by supplementing the missing hormones so I just pop a couple of pills every morning.
No biggie.

Just waiting now for a full set of antibody results…

      not so big a deal….

Well, Peter spotted it first – he had a full medical at work. He told me to get checked out and I did about a year ago. They tested for the hypothyroidism and found it (it was easy to spot).

When I came out here to Singapore some good friends recommended an endocrinologist and she did asked clever questions and sent me for more tests.

It sounds big and terrible but it’s actually not too bad. I just take pills every day to supplement any lost hormones.

But it’s great to elicit sympathy – and you are a case in point!!

Glad to hear from you. I maintain a constant vigil over your journal and take every opportunity to be condescending. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Now, how about a comment on some of my serious stuff? You read a sermon on Genesis 22 lately….?

I hadn’t realized it until now, but I see… you and are twins! Identical or fraternal?
