a geography lesson

After church today we decided to stop for lunch at the excellent Deus ex Machina, a cool motorbike shop with attached café. They have loads of copies of the day’s papers and I picked up today’s Sun Herald. Today they were giving away a world map that looked a bit like this:

Look at the monstrosity! Since when was Australia the centre of the world? We all know that a proper map has something else at the centre:

    What, Africa? That’s what your proposed map seems to suggest. Well, Africa is at least the heart of Anglicanism these days, I suppose.

    i see that, as usual, the States have taken to simply carving up other parts of the world in order to maintain their status 😉

    There’s are some deep analogous messages in those two maps pertaining to theology and the Liberal versus Conservative approach, don’t you think?
    Here’s a couple for a start;
    -The oldest ways of viewing how things work are not always the best or most correct
    -What one puts at the centre of ones world view, unless it’s God, will always be arbitrary and come from ones own predjudices
