The Unbeliever - Bublé style?

Michael Bublé's in Hell? Really? And you know this? For sure? And you had to tell other people about this because…?

No, don't worry, it's not that kind of a post!

Just a small thought. Too often we are in danger of thinking that the unbeliever thinks about God the way that Bublé thinks about the girl in this (nice little) song…

But come on, is that really the case? Where does the Bible actually say that the unbeliever could be walking about keen to meet this correct concept of God, with every best intention, but just hasn't met Him yet? Do we just hopefully wander the supermarket aisles of spirituality waiting to find the ultimate product? Maybe one day it will all work out?

Don't the Scriptures, rather, tell us,

Romans 3:10-12 As it is written: “There is no one righteous, not even one; 11 there is no one who understands, no one who seeks God. 12 All have turned away, they have together become worthless; there is no one who does good, not even one.”

But what about stuff like this?

Ecclesiastes 3:11 [God] has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the hearts of men; yet they cannot fathom what God has done from beginning to end.

How do we harmonise the two? Surely not by making Eccl 3:11 override Rom 3? The only way, it seems to me, is to sugest that there is eternity in the hearts of men, which does cause some of them to try and fathom things out. But they can't. We can't – because we're all sinners. And so rather than working it all out we just make God up for ourselves.

I like Bublé's song. But let's face it, not every marries a model and, frankly, she's probably a real b*tch anyway. I didn't marry a model, I married Jacqui and she's far better than any plastic idea of what a wife should be like.

And I didn't get converted by a hip, trendy “everyone wins” kind of a God. That may have been the kind of God that I thought I would, one day, get to know. Boy was I surprised!

I got converted by the drowns-Pharoah's-armies-in-the-Red-Sea-and-razes-Babylon-and-sends-His-own-Son-to-die-and-calls-me-to-follow-Him-to-the-exclusion-of-all-others kind of God.

And He's far better too.

All a bit like this song instead (but don't overthink the lyrics)

    Hi David,

Given that, in the English-speaking world, Luisana Lopilato is almost completely unknown, on what basis do you make judgements about her personality?

Rog, sorry for the delay in getting your comment up.

I wasn’t intending to speak about her specifically, just the notional “girlfriend” of Buble’s song. No actual living person was intended (or whatever the disclaimer is that they put on films etc).
