New Primate for the Middle East

Global South Anglican are reporting that Mouneer Hanna Anis has been elected Primate following the retirement of Clive Handford.

This is great news. First, it’s a firm vote for next week’s Primates’ meeting. Bishop Mouneer is a solid Christian man. Second, he has a great reputation. Friends of ours used to work in Cairo at the Cathedral and speak highly of him. A while ago he came to visit the clergy in Singapore where I was working. One morning he went with Bishop Chew (now Primate of SE Asia) to meet some of the local Imams. By all reports he blew them away – his arabic was far better than theirs and when the discussion got serious his recall of the Qu’ran was far superior.

Give thanks to God.
