The Pope and the PM

big Benny and dubya its all too much for Gordon

Both Pope Benedict XVI and the UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown are visiting the US at the moment. As Cranmer points out, one of them is doing a far better job than the other…

If a picture speaks a thousand words, this juxtaposition is worth a thesis.

There is little more to be said. His Holiness is radiant and enthusing his audience; the epitome of courtesy and diplomacy. The Prime Minister is dull and patronising; and sufficiently discourteous to fall asleep during a UN meeting.

How one longs for a prime minister of standing, distinction, esteem, brilliance, influence…

Readers will know that I am no fan of the Pope, principally because of what he stands for. But let them be assured of this - he has one very strong thing going for him…
