Herod Will Have to Wait

a little snippet from last Sunday’s sermon on Luke 13:31-35

Luke 13:31    At that time some Pharisees came to Jesus and said to him, “Leave this place and go somewhere else. Herod wants to kill you.”
32 He replied, “Go tell that fox, ‘I will keep on driving out demons and healing people today and tomorrow, and on the third day I will reach my goal.’ 33 In any case, I must press on today and tomorrow and the next day—for surely no prophet can die outside Jerusalem!

my comments:

…isn’t Jesus clear? He’s going to Jerusalem to die.  A prophet cannot perish away from Jerusalem. So to Jerusalem He must go. And Herod’s threats will just have to wait.
It’s beautifully ironic, though, isn’t it? Think about this. The pharisees come and say “look out, Herod wants to kill you”.
to which Jesus replies “I don’t have time for Herod to kill me. I have to go to Jerusalem to be killed!” That’s where I’m going to be killed! That’s the course I need to complete and Herod’s threats won’t get in the way.
