GAFCON/FCA Issues Clear Call to Action over January “Crossroads” Primates Meeting

fca300The GAFCON chairman, Archbishop Eliud Wabukala of Kenya, has written to all Fellowship of Confessing Anglicans members to direct them to a “Crossroadsmoment in the life of the Anglican Communion:

THE ANGLICAN COMMUNION IS AT A CROSSROADS.

The Archbishop of Canterbury has called together all the Primates of the Anglican Communion for a meeting in Canterbury 11th โ€“ 16th January 2016 which we believe will be decisive for the future of the Communion.

ย AT STAKE IS A BASIC CHURCH-DEFINING PRINCIPLE:

Will Christ rule our life and witness through His word, or will our life and witness be conformed to the global ambitions of a secular culture?ย

This was the reason GAFCON was formed in 2008: to renew a Communion in crisis, drifting from biblical truth. While the presenting issue was human sexuality, this was really just one symptom of a deeper challenge, the emergence of a false gospel which rejects the core Anglican commitment to the truth and authority of the Bible.

GAFCON works to make this fundamental issue of biblical truth clear to Anglicans everywhere so that, equipped by Godโ€™s word and empowered by His Spirit, we can live under the lordship of Christ and make him known as Lord and Saviour to a world in desperate need of Him.

The GAFCON Primates will attend the Canterbury meeting, but they are clear that their continued presence will depend upon action by the Archbishop of Canterbury and a majority of the Primates to ensure that participation in the Anglican Communion is governed by robust commitments to biblical teaching and morality.

SO TODAY, PLEASE STAND WITH US TO GUARD THE GOSPEL.

Yours in Christ,
Archbishop Eliud Wabukala
Primate of Kenya and Chairman of the GAFCON Primates Council

It goes without saying that the most important person at the meeting is the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby. Ultimately he will or will not decide to carry out the discipline already established by the Primates years ago at the Dar Es Salaam meeting. Do pray for courage of conviction for him.

It sounds like a well reasoned approach. How will the Australian primate approach this problem? Here in Melbourne there seems to be an increasing number of parishes aligning with “Changing attitudes” and they will place preasure on Phillip merely by their membership. But the larger and growing parishes seem to be aligned with the opposite side and are becomming members of FCA. With the increasing number of unviable Anglican churches across Melbourne, Victoria, and South Australia the result is hard to call.

      hi Tony.

Yes, there’s recently been pressure on Freier. But not just from CA. The actions of Gippsland and Wangaratta should, I think, be seen as part of that same pressure. And, no doubt, there are other diocesans who would not be far behind. Freier may very well be being boxed in.
